Katie Spotz, a 22-year-old woman, will soon be hopping in her rowboat and rowing across the Atlantic Ocean. She would become the youngest person to row the ocean solo, and the first American, if she completes the journey.
Part of the reason she is doing this is to raise $30,000 for Blue Planet Run. The Blue Planet Run is a San Francisco based non-profit funding safe drinking water projects for the billion people around the world in need.
Her row will start in Senegal, on Africa’s west coast, and go to Cayenne, French Guiana, in South America. The long and presumably arduous trip is expected to take between 70 and 100 days. The only thing powering her boat will be her body, as she will not be using any sails, motors, or lassoed dolphins.
Keep tabs on Katie’s progress and donate to the cause at her website – Row For Water.
