Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert Redford will be attending the NRDC‘s gala, as their Southern California office is celebrating its 20th anniversary next week.
Hosted by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, the A-list event goes down April 25 at the Beverly Wilshire on April 25th. The guest list also includes Maroon 5, who will be performing at the event while Rosanna Arquette will DJ the afterparty.
“You can be tough doing bad things, and tough doing good things. NRDC, in my opinion, is tough doing good things,” Redford said in a statement.
DiCaprio called the NRDC, “probably the most effective environmental organization in the world. It is willing to take on major corporations and the government itself to hold them accountable for the environmental policy that’s out there.”
A short film will be featured at the Gala that features both Redford and DiCaprio, that depicts the accomplishments of Natural Resources Defense Council’s Southern California office.

Robert Redford recently penned an article for the Huffington Post entitled, “Balancing Renewable Energy Projects & Public Lands Stewardship,” in which he blames the Bush Administration for eight years of eight years of rampant oil and gas drilling on our lands. Redford says that now the Bush Administration is gone, Americans need to begin the process of recognizing the need for clean energy.
“America is on the verge of a renewable energy gold rush. Hundreds of applications for wind and solar projects have been filed on public lands. I think this is long overdue. We need sustainable energy to help us reduce global warming pollution, and we need it fast. But if we don’t handle this boom carefully, unspoiled wildlands will get trammeled in its wake. Right now, we have an opportunity to start the clean energy era off right.”

Robert Redford is to be honoured by top American university, Duke, in April. The Duke LEAF Award will be presented to the actor and environmentalist R Redford by Duke’s Nicholas School of Environment to honour his work to create environmental awareness. Robert Redford’s environmental work has included congressional lobbying, advocating for renewable energy as well as for the preservation of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
“Robert Redford’s body of work as an actor, director, producer and founder of the Sundance Institute and Redford Center at the Sundance Preserve highlights the critical but often underappreciated role artists can play in inspiring people to take action for the environment,” said dean of the Nicholas School, William L. Chameides.
Redford said in a recent conference that he was “honored to be in the company of a school which has as its mission to train leaders of consequence for a sustainable future.”
