Michael Jackson Tribute Among Grammy Awards Performances

During last night’s Grammy Awards (where we learned Taylor Swift isn’t much of a singer), Michael Jackson was honored with a 3D video presentation of his “Earth Song” which included a live peformance by Celine Dion, Usher, Carrie Underwood, Smokey Robinson and Jennifer Hudson. Lionel Richie said Jackson created “Earth Song” as a call to action against the destruction of Nature and animals by humans.

Afterwards, his children gave a heartfelt speech thanking his fans for their longtime support.

California Wildfires Threaten Michael Jackson’s Tigers

Michael Jackson’s beloved tigers “Thriller” and “Sabu” are currently living at the Shambala Preserve in Acton, California – right in the path of the California wildfires. The preserve was given the animals in 2006 after Jackson suffered financial problems and could no longer care for them at Neverland Ranch.

Founder and president of Shambala Preserve, The Birds actress Tippi Hedren, said that the 100 wild animals at the preserve aren’t in imminent danger and therefore they don’t need to evacuate. However, other animal sanctuaries in the area have already evacuated.

“We have a very, very good plan with the fire department,” Hedren said to FOX News. “We will stay where we are, let the fire department do their job and we will do ours.”

Michael Jackson Hit ‘Earth Song’

So we thought we’d seen every Michael Jackson video ever made, but we recently stumbled across “Earth Song” – a 1996 Jackson hit we’d never heard before. Apparently, the song was never released in the United States but did extremely well over in the UK.

“For me, this is Earth’s Song,” Jackson had said about the song at the time of its release, “Because I think nature is trying so hard to compensate for man’s mismanagement of the Earth. And with the ecological unbalance going on, and a lot of the problems in the environment, I think earth feels the pain, and she has wounds, and it’s about some of the joys of the planet as well.”
