Joe Biden Scares America with Swine Flu Interview

Vice President Joe Biden appeared on The Today Show and told Matt Lauer that he would not advise his family to go in confined spaces like airplanes and subway systems.

“I would tell members of my family — and I have — I wouldn’t go anywhere in confined places now,” Biden said. “It’s not that it’s going to Mexico. It’s [that] you’re in a confined aircraft. When one person sneezes, it goes all the way through the aircraft. That’s me.”

The White House went into damage control, backpedaling furiously by advising that only those who are feeling sick should avoid public transportation. They also advised any travel to Mexico.

Those who take public transportation should not avoid it over the fear of contracting swine flu, but rather, just use precaution. Wash your hands, cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze, and stay home if you’re sick.

Ball Rolling on Green Jobs

Obama is allocating $500 million from the stimulus to Green jobs training programs.

At a summit in Philadelphia on Friday, Vice President Joe Biden said people who make $20 per hour before a green jobs training program can make $50 per hour after. Biden also said that clean-energy jobs pay 10 to 20 percent more than similar work outside the field.

And the green-job movement seems to be starting. Last week, New Jersey Governor Jon S. Corzine unveiled a $2 million Green Jobs training program for high school students at the Center for Energy and Environmental Training. The program has been is dedicated to offering green-collar jobs for high school graduates.

The Center will train several hundred people this year, and help jump-start similar training programs throughout the state. The hopes are that these programs will create thousands of jobs in the state during the next few years, as part of Corzine’s goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 20 percent by 2020.

Joe Biden Pushes Green Jobs in Philadelphia

Vice President Joe Biden is in Philadelphia today to relay how the creation of green jobs is the bridge to middle class economic recovery. Biden is at the University of Pennsylvania’s William B. Irvine Auditorium and has provided the Philadelphia Inquirer with an op-ed of his key talking points.

Biden writes, “According to the Council of Economic Advisers, green jobs pay 10 to 20 percent more than other jobs. They also are more likely to be union jobs. Building a new power grid, manufacturing solar panels, weatherizing homes and office buildings, and renovating schools are just a few of the ways to create high-quality green jobs that strengthen the foundation of this country.

More green jobs can also mean more money in consumers’ pocketbooks at the end of the month. They can reduce your electric and heating bills, leaving you more disposable income for other things.

Right here in Philadelphia, for example, there are 400,000 rowhouses that could be weatherized and made more energy-efficient. Just doing that would lower household energy consumption by 20 to 40 percent, saving families hundreds of dollars a year.

Fortunately, as we will stress in our meeting here today, Mayor Nutter, Gov. Rendell, and other state and city officials across the nation are ready to help us build a greener economy. Philadelphia, for example, is working with its unions, universities, and community colleges to impart green skills to workers from all walks of life. The city is also proposing a new public authority to support large-scale green investment, especially in weatherization, building retrofits, and infrastructure.

We’re excited to be in Philadelphia promoting an idea that has so many benefits. We’re starting to make the investments needed to leave a cleaner world to our children while also creating good jobs right now. When you’re creating green jobs, you’re doing well by doing good.”
