Rescue teams are searching the San Diego coastline for the nine people who were aboard a coast guard plane and a Marine Corps helicopter that tragically collided at around 7:10 p.m. on Thursday evening. The cause of the crash has not yet been determined. The crash site is about 15 miles east of San Clemente Island.
CNN reported Friday that a pilot flying near the area reported seeing a fireball around the crash site last night. Coast Guard and Navy officials have been searching for survivors since. Military officials said that seven people were aboard the Coast Guard plane, while two were in the helicopter.
The Navy has owned and trained at San Clemente Island since 1934.
