I was about to write in as well and correct the incorrect claim: “and the first American”. Sorry, Katie, but I was the first American woman to row an ocean. Also, you’re 22, I was 23 years old when we started the Atlantic. I turned 24 5 days later off the coast of Morocco.

There is an inaccuracy in the statement made in the first paragraph: it says “Katie will become the first American” … to row an ocean solo? or to row an ocean? or to row the Atlantic?
The first woman to row any ocean solo and the first American to row the Atlantic solo was Tori Murden, who rowed the Atlantic East to West in September- December 1999.
The first American to row an ocean was Patric Quesnel, who rowed Mid-Pacific solo (from La Push, Washington State to Hawaii) in 1976.
The first American woman to row an ocean was Kathleen Saville, who rowed the Atlantic (1981) and the Pacific (1984-85) in team with her husband Curtis Saville.
So the correct definition of Ketie’s records will be as follows:
1. The youngest person to row an ocean solo;
2. The first American to row the Atlantic from Africa to South America.
