Ashley Judd is on the warpath when it comes to wolf-killer Sarah Palin, who is calling upon Alaska’s trigger-happy rednecks to shoot wolves by offering a $150 bounty on their heads.
Judd came to the defense of the wolves last week, narrating a video on behalf of Defenders of Wildlife, lambasting the former Vice Presidential nominee for the aerial wolf slaughter. Palin responded calling Judd’s video “reprehensible and hypocritical” for trying “to deceive Americans into parting with their hard-earned money.”
Of course, The View‘s Elisabeth Hasselbeck added her two cents on the matter, somehow managing to tie the issue to abortion. Hasselbeck said, “The problem that I have here is like a lot of these vocal celebrities, in a way, get very loud about these animal killings. Like is she loud as – she said, ‘How many wolves have been killed? 900 this year.’ Is she as loud about the 260,000 kids killed in abortions?”
In retaliation, Judd appeared on Larry King Live Friday night to take another shot at the Alaskan governor as well as Hasselbeck.
Judd told King, “What is really important is to maintain a healthy and natural ecological balance between predators and prey. And allowing wealthy humans, primarily urban hunters or those who are bounty hunters from out of state, to go to Alaska and for sport hire airplanes, hire private pilots to fly around and kill wolves in this incredibly savage manner, it’s not right. It is not ethical. It is not appropriate. It doesn’t make sense on any level.”

I would ask you, Governor Palin, that you stop killing the wolves. They are the animals that you think of when you think about Alaska. I would imagine that they migrate south from the Arctic Circle to Southern Alaska, which is where you are from. At least give my friend Ashley Judd a reason why you are exterminating the wolves. It’s like shooting dogs for no reason. In Kentucky, shooting dogs would land you in jail. Thank you.

Yes it is ridiculous to hung wolves from airplanes, but it is necessary to balance out the ecosystem, since we as people are encrouching on lands and destroyig forest the wolves need to survive in the numbers they require. To compare them to dogs (Hunter) is idiotic, dogs are not wild. Personally I do not wolves comming into my area to live and hung my animals so they can have something to eat. The reason to hunt wolves is to control their populatioin so they do not starve from not having enough prey to eat. Much deeper than Ashley Judd suggests it is. Appalled at which the manner that they hung wolves should be the only issue here. Does not matter who is in office, the decision would have been the same. Ashley Judd should know why before she gets on air, wasting our time.

I am from Kentucky and Hunter, you are obviously uneducated in wildlife preservation. Wolves breed a lot faster than their prey. In order to maintain a healthy population of wolves or any rapidly breeding predator, it is necessary to limit their numbers. This ensures there is a balance of predator and prey.
Moon, Hunt not Hung. You are correct with your knowledge of wild life preservation, people need to consider the size of the area that these creatures live in.. its Alaska for God sake. It doesn’t “require” a helicopter to hunt them, but it makes it easier and quicker. What would be preferred, 2,000 hunters running around for months with semi-automatic rifles shooting at everything that moves, or 100 actual wildlife conservationists in helicopters doing the job quickly. Actors make a living pretending. They need to quit soap boxing everything that comes along… And Politicians, well they have enough to fix without concerning themselves with the local animal population.

Please leave it to the biologists and science to determine when or if it’s necessary to control any predator populations. We humans have completely fouled up our ecosystem and it appears that if you have enough money you can do whatever you wish (and that includes being above the law). Wolves have been misunderstood and hunted to near extinction from time immortal and always out of human ignorance.
Do not leave it up to the Alaskans to decide the fate of wolves or any of our wildlife. It does not belong solely to them, this is our world, our country and our wildlands and for God’s sakes if Sara Palin says anything do exactly the opposite!
