A strong earthquake in Taiwan was reported early Thursday morning. It registered at 6.4 according to the USGS. The earthquake took place in southern Taiwan, 25 miles from T’ai-tung, Taiwan.

Reuters says that there are no initial reports of damage.

Taiwan was hit by a 7.6-magnitude earthquake in September 1999 that killed more than 2,000 people.
